Shradh Start Gaya Special Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja for peace for the ancestor’s soul and resolving family disputes

🙏 Feeling troubled by family disagreements? This sacred time of Shraadh offers a path to seek peace and the blessings of your ancestors.

Pitrupaksha, also known as Shraadh Paksha, is a very important time in the Hindu faith. Every year, it begins on the Pratipada tithi of the Bhadrapada month and continues until the Amavasya. This entire period is specially dedicated to remembering ancestors and praying for the peace of their souls. During this time, people perform rituals like Shraadh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan. It is believed that these actions please the ancestors and their blessings remain with the family. The first day, Pratipada tithi, is known as Shraadh Pratipada. On this day, Shraadh is performed for ancestors who passed away on a Pratipada tithi, whether it was during the Krishna Paksha or Shukla Paksha. Therefore, this day is considered very special for families whose loved ones passed away on this tithi.

The mention of Pitrupaksha is found in many ancient holy books like the Vedas, Upanishads, and Puranas. In the Garuda Purana, performing Shraadh and Tarpan is described as necessary to be free from ancestral debt. It is believed that when the souls of the ancestors are content, happiness and peace fill the home. On the other hand, if ancestors are not remembered and their souls are not offered peace, it is thought that problems like obstacles in life, mental unrest, health issues, and difficulties in children's education and career may arise.

In our sacred traditions, the city of Gaya holds a special importance. The Dharmaranya Vedi here is said to be a very holy place for performing ancestral rituals. There is a deep belief that Shraadh and Pitru Pujan performed at this location are especially fruitful. For this reason, thousands of devotees come here during Pitrupaksha to remember their ancestors. Following this tradition, on the Pratipada tithi of this year's Pitrupaksha, a Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja is being organized at the Dharmaranya Vedi in Gaya. This is a special opportunity for all who wish to show respect to their ancestors and pray for their blessings.

You too can join the puja organized on this special occasion through Sri Mandir and express your devotion to your ancestors.

Dharmaranya Vedi, Gaya

Dharmaranya Vedi, Gaya
The city of Gaya in Bihar, also known as Bodh Gaya, is a very important place for the ritual of Pind Daan. Devotees believe that performing Pind Daan and Tarpan here helps the souls of ancestors find peace and liberation, which is why this sacred place is called Moksha Sthali. It is said that Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Mahesh, along with all other deities, are present here. The deep significance of Gaya is also mentioned in holy texts like the Vayu Purana, Garuda Purana, and Vishnu Purana. The ancient tradition of offering Tarpan and Pind Daan continues at the holy altars, or Pindvedis, around Gaya. According to the Skanda Purana, Dharmaraj Yudhishthir himself performed Pind Daan at the Dharmaranya Pindvedi for the peace of the souls lost in the great Mahabharata war. The Dharmaranya Vedi is considered a very sacred site, and performing Pind Daan and Tripindi Shraadh here is thought to be especially meaningful. Devotees perform this ritual for protection from unhappy souls and to pray that their ancestors attain liberation.
