However, upon seeing her sister’s happiness, Sudaha became envious and, in an act of cruelty, killed the child and threw his body into the pond. When Ghushma learned of this tragic event, she did not lose her faith; instead, she calmly continued her worship of Lord Shiva. Moved by her true devotion, Lord Shiva Himself appeared before her, restored her son’s life, and asked her to request a boon. Ghushma asked for her sister’s forgiveness and for the Lord to reside there forever. Lord Shiva accepted her request and declared that He would be worshipped there as “Ghushmeshwar.” From that moment, the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga was established. To this day, devotees perform 101 circumambulations of the temple in memory of Ghushma’s devotion, believing that where there is true faith, the Lord Himself manifests.
