Kali Jayanti is observed on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth lunar day) of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) in the Bhadrapada month. Goddess Kali is the first of the ten Mahavidyas and is regarded as the fierce energy of Lord Shiva. According to the Devi Bhagavatam Purana and the Brahmanil Tantra, she has two main forms: the black-complexioned Dakshina Kali and the red-complexioned Sundari. Her deep black form is the reason she is called “Kali.” This year, Kali Jayanti falls on a Friday, a day that is considered highly auspicious for Devi sadhana (spiritual practice focused on the Divine Feminine). On this day, not only is worship of Goddess Kali considered fruitful, but sadhana of four other Mahavidyas - Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhairavi, and Lalita - is also believed to bring great spiritual benefits. This occasion is especially revered for granting inner strength, emotional balance, and spiritual peace to sincere seekers.
