Sawan is considered the most beloved and sacred month for Lord Shiva in Hinduism. The entire month is dedicated to Mahadev, but the puja, sadhana, and mantra chanting performed on the last Monday of Sawan are believed to be a thousand times more fruitful than on regular days. According to mythology, after traversing the three realms, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night. It is said that this is the only temple on earth where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati play a divine game of dice (chaupar) every night. After the evening shayan aarti (ritual before sleep), the chaupar board is laid out inside the sanctum, which is then sealed.
