According to the Ramayana, during the Lanka war when Lakshman was injured and Hanuman Ji was on his way to bring the Sanjeevani herb, Ravana sent a demon named Kalanemi to stop him. Kalanemi disguised himself as a Brahmin and tried to deceive Hanuman Ji. However, Hanuman Ji recognized the illusion and defeated him.
After this event, the gods blessed Hanuman Ji with the title “Mayapati.” In this temple, a south-facing idol of Hanuman Ji is installed.
