Shri Kaal Bhairav Mandir
In Kashi, called the city of Mahadev, nothing happens without the will of Bhairav Baba, and the entire city's supervision is in his hands. According to the mythological story, once a debate arose between Brahma Ji and Vishnu Ji over who was the greatest. When Shiva Ji was mentioned during this discussion, the fifth head of Brahma Ji criticized Shiva Ji, which angered Shiva Ji. At that moment, Kaal Bhairav was born from the anger of Lord Shiva. Kaal Bhairav cut off the fifth head of Brahma Ji who had criticized Shiva Ji, but the head would not separate from Kaal Bhairav's hand.
Then Shiva Ji told Kaal Bhairav, "You have incurred the sin of Brahma Hatya (killing a Brahmin). There is only one way to erase this sin: you must travel through the three worlds. The place where this fifth head of Brahma separates from your hand, there you will be freed from this sin." Brahma Ji's head separated from Bhairav Baba's hand in Kashi, and there he attained liberation. After this, Shiva Ji made Kaal Bhairav the Kotwal (chief police officer) of Kashi. It is believed that worshipping Baba Kaal Bhairav, who resides here, removes all sorrow, 'nazar badha' (evil eye), defects, and suffering.
