According to the Panchang, the Chaturthi that falls during the Krishna Paksha of the Magha month is known as Sakat Chauth. This day is dedicated to Vighna Harta Lord Ganesha and Sakat Mata. On this day, women perform puja and observe a fast, praying for the long life and successful future of their children. It is believed that performing puja on this day blesses children with prosperity and well-being. Therefore, on this auspicious occasion 11,000 Ganesh Vakra-Tundi Mantra Jaap and Sakat Mata Panchamrit Abhishek will be organized at the Only Chauth Mata Temple in the World, located in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. This temple is regarded as the oldest and most renowned shrine dedicated to Chauth Mata. There is also a legend behind worshipping Sakat Mata for the well-being of children on this day. In a town, a potter found that the fire in his kiln could not bake the pots. Seeking help, he approached the king, who consulted the royal Pandit (Rajpurohit). The Pandit suggested a shocking solution: a child must be sacrificed (Bali) for the kiln to bake successfully. The king decreed that every family must offer one child whenever a kiln was prepared.
On the day of Sakat Chauth, it was the turn of an old woman’s son, her only support in life. The old woman, a devoted worshipper of Sakat Mata, gave her son a betel nut of Sakat and "Dub Ka Beeda" and told him to pray to Sakat Mata for protection. By the grace of Sakat Mata, the kiln baked perfectly overnight, a process that usually took days. The next morning, the potter was astonished to see not only that the kiln was successfully baked but also that the old woman's son was unharmed. Miraculously, the other children who had been previously sacrificed were found alive as well. Since then, the worship of Sakat Mata has been observed with great devotion, particularly for the well-being of children.
