The Vedas and Puranas emphasise the significance of worshipping the Parthiv Shivling. According to the Shiv Puran, devotees who perform Partheshwar Pujan always receive the blessings of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Shani Dev, one of the Navagrahas, also performed a special worship by creating a Parthiv Shivling in Kashi to gain more power than his father, Surya Dev. Scriptures suggest that Parthiv Shivlings should always be made from the sacred mud and sand found on the banks of holy rivers like the Ganga. Just as the month of Shravan is dear to Lord Shiva, similarly, Mondays in this month are especially dear to him. Therefore, the 1100 Shivlinga Pranpratishtha Partheshwar Pujan will be performed in the sacred city of Kashi during the auspicious month of Shravan on Monday. The Parthiv Shivlings will be made, and the entire puja will be performed on a boat in the middle of the sacred Ganga. After the puja, all the Shivlings will be immersed in the Ganga River, known as Ganga Visarjan in Sanatan Dharma.
