Vijayadashami, also called Dussehra, is one of the most important days of Navratri. It marks the victory of good over evil, as it was on this day that Maa Durga defeated the demon Mahishasura. With this power, he troubled the heavens and spread fear across the three worlds. The gods prayed to the supreme Mother, who appeared in her fierce form as Mahishasura Mardini. Riding her lion and armed with celestial weapons, she fought a long battle for nine days and finally killed Mahishasura on the tenth day, restoring dharma and balance in the universe. From then on, this day is called Vijayadashami, and she has been worshipped as the symbol of victory of light over darkness and truth over falsehood. Symbolically, Vijayadashami teaches us that no matter how strong negativity or obstacles may appear, the power of dharma and truth will always triumph.

The Stotra Parayanam, drawn from the Devi Mahatmyam of the Markandeya Purana, glorifies the Goddess’s fierce battle and ultimate victory over Mahishasura. Each verse is a powerful hymn that not only recounts her divine strength but also inspires courage, confidence, and unwavering devotion in the hearts of devotees. Reciting this stotra is believed to invite the protective energy of the Goddess, helping to dispel fear, overcome inner weaknesses, and strengthen one’s resolve in life. The Chandi Homam, a powerful fire ritual, involves the chanting of verses from Durga Saptashati along with offerings into the holy fire. This ritual is said to burn away negative energies, remove obstacles, and invoke the Goddess’s blessings for strength, victory, and peace.
🕉️ This puja is being held at the Chamundeshwari Temple in Hyderabad, a sacred place believed to be blessed by the Goddess in her Swayambhu form for at least three centuries. The temple’s origin goes back to a simple anthill shrine under a neem tree, where locals worshipped the village goddess Chowdamma Devi. Over time, devotion to her grew, and in 2012, to serve the increasing number of devotees, a temple was built under the guidance of Sri Sachidananda Saraswathi, the pontiff of Dharmapuri Tapovana Peetadipathi. Today, it stands as a vibrant center of worship where countless devotees seek the blessings of Chamundeshwari Devi for protection, strength, and prosperity.
