Participate in the Ayyappa Swamy’s Mandala Kalam Saturday Special Neyyabhishekam and Padi Puja to get relief from Shani dosha and divine protection.

Ayyappa Swamy, also lovingly called Manikanta, Hari Hara Sutha, and Dharmashasta, as per the Puranas. Dharmashashta means ruler of Dharma. According to the Vishnu Purana, he was born from the divine union of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu in his Mohini form for the purpose of restoring peace and protecting dharma in Kaliyuga. He is worshipped as the embodiment of discipline, devotion, and inner strength. His mantra “Swamiye Sharanam Ayyappa” reminds us to surrender our worries, desires, and struggles at his feet, trusting that he will guide us.

Among many devotional traditions, there is a popular belief that once Ayyappa Swamy requested Shani Deva not to trouble his devotees during the difficult 7.5-year Shani period. Shani replied that testing individuals and creating karmic challenges is part of his Dharma. With compassion for devotees, Ayyappa convinced Shani Deva to grant mercy and protection to those who worship him sincerely during the sacred 41-day Mandala Kalam and Shani Deva agreed. Since then, many devotees believe that worshipping Ayyappa Swamy during this period helps reduce the hardships of Shani Dosha, bringing relief, stability, and strength.

The sacred period of Mandala Kalam, fully called Mandala Makaravilakku Kalam, holds deep spiritual value in the Ayyappa tradition. During this period, devotees follow vratham, wear the mala, practice simplicity and chant the Lord’s name. This period ends with Makaravilakku, a divine moment linked to the ancient ritual light lit at Ponnambalamedu on Makara Sankranti. Devotees believe this light represents the grace of Ayyappa and the awakening of inner purity and spiritual light.

As part of this sacred period, Ayyappa Neyyabhishekam and Bhasma Archana carry great significance. Neyyabhishekam, the offering of pure ghee, symbolises cleansing of past karmas, easing of Shani-related struggles, and melting away obstacles, just as ghee becomes pure and clear when heated, devotees believe their life becomes clearer under Ayyappa’s blessings. Following this, Bhasma Archana represents purity, humility, and protection. The sacred ash reminds devotees that difficulties are temporary, but divine grace is eternal. It is believed to reduce negative karmas, counter unseen planetary obstacles, and offer spiritual protection.

This special puja is performed for relief from Shani Dosha, protection from hardships, and the removal of delays and struggles in life. Participate in this sacred offering to receive Ayyappa Swamy’s blessings for stability, inner strength, and divine protection.

For many decades, Kaggalipura has been a sacred place for Lord Ayyappa devotees, and for the past 50 years, people who wore the mala and followed the Mandala discipline began gathering there regularly to pray, chant bhajans and worship Lord Ayyappa with deep devotion. Over time, this devotion grew, and the spot slowly became a spiritual centre for Ayyappa followers in Bengaluru. With continued faith and unity, the devotees collectively contributed their time, effort and resources, and finally built the present Ayyappa Swamy Temple that stands today in Kaggalipura. Now, this temple serves as a place of puja, Mandala vrata observance, and community bhajans, especially during the Mandala-Makaravilakku season, helping devotees experience the blessings and spirit of Lord Ayyappa close to home.
