When one speaks of the incredible religious heritage of Indore, Ranjeet Hanuman Temple comes among the most revered sites in the city. Situated on the Footi Kothi Road, this temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. While the temple welcomes large crowds of devotees throughout the week, the footfalls spike significantly on Tuesdays and Saturdays when special aartis are performed here.
History of the temple
Ranjeet Hanuman Temple presents a fascinating tale of faith and devotion. It is said that Alhadsingh Bharadwaj, a wrestler from Indore, was an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman. Led by his love for the Pavanputra, he placed an idol of Lord Hanuman in the deserted forests of Gumashta Nagar and set up a wrestling ground around it. With the passage of time, umpteen miracles were witnessed at this spot and it gradually became famous as the ‘Ranjeet Hanuman Mandir’.
Significance of the temple
It is said that devotees who wish for success in work and profession visit this temple to seek the blessings of Lord Ranjeet Hanuman. The deity endows the visitors with triumph in all their endeavors and grants all their desires. Notably, several actors and politicians have also visited this temple in the past.
Architecture of the temple
The temple embodies a history of over 130 years and its structure has been restored and renovated recently. Right at the entrance of the temple, you will catch a blissful glimpse of Lord Anjaneya’s grand idol. He is adorned with a sword and an armor. Besides, the temple also houses idols of Lord Shiv, Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Goddess Durga. It is surrounded by several small temples dedicated to different Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu pantheon.
