Pandeshwar Mahadev Dham holds a significant historical background and origins. According to legend, during the Dwapar era, the five Pandavas, while in exile, decided to establish a Shivalinga and build a temple under the guidance of Sage Bhardwaj. Thus, the temple was constructed by the Pandavas and came to be known as Pandeshwar (Padila Mahadev). The entire temple is made of stones and is included in Prayagraj's Panchkosi Parikrama. The renovation of the temple was undertaken by Raja Nain Singh of Bahishuma Fort Parikshitgarh in 1798.

Pandeshwar Mahadev Dham is highly significant for devotees who seek intense devotion to Lord Bholenath, especially during the holy month of Sawan. It is believed that if devotees visit the temple and offer Jalabhishek (water offering) to Lord Bholenath for the entire month, their wishes are granted. The temple holds immense religious importance and is revered by devotees from various districts in Uttar Pradesh, who travel long distances to worship Lord Pandeshwarnath Mahadev.

Devotees offer various items to the revered deity at Pandeshwar Mahadev Dham. During the holy month of Sawan, devotees present Lord Bholenath with targets and sticks to appease him. Additionally, offerings such as Gangajal (water from the Ganges), Flag-Pataka, Belpatra (leaves of the Bilva tree), Dhatura (a type of flower), and other traditional items are made by the Kavaris and worshippers visiting the temple.
