Among the famous temples of Allahabad stand tall is Pandeshwar Mahadev Dham also known as Padila Mahadev temple at Prayagraj. If the devotee’s wishes are granted, they present Lord Bholenath with targets and sticks in order to appease him. Throughout Sawan, Lord Bholenath is adorned every day in a different way. From dawn until dusk, devotees and Kavaris swarm the temple to see Lord Shiva. Devotees travel great distances to Prayagraj Padilla to worship Lord Pandeshwarnath Mahadev.
History of the temple
Pandeshwar Mahadev Dham holds a significant historical background and origins. According to legend, during the Dwapar era, the five Pandavas, while in exile, decided to establish a Shivalinga and build a temple under the guidance of Sage Bhardwaj. Thus, the temple was constructed by the Pandavas and came to be known as Pandeshwar (Padila Mahadev). The entire temple is made of stones and is included in Prayagraj's Panchkosi Parikrama. The renovation of the temple was undertaken by Raja Nain Singh of Bahishuma Fort Parikshitgarh in 1798.
