24 Avtar temple famed as the Fifth Dham.

Located in Depalpur town of Madhya Pradesh, 24 Avtar Temple lies at a distance of 40 km from Indore. Renowned as the fifth dham, the temple is visited by devotees from across the country and abroad. Such is the grandness and beauty of this temple, that it enthralls everyone who visits here. 24 Avtaar Temple is being designed to house the idols of 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, the preserver in the holy trinity of Hinduism.

History of the temple

The foundation stone for 24 Avtaar Temple was laid in 1968-69 when Gurudev Jaykarandas Bhaktamali Paramhans performed the Vishnu Mahayagya here. A 6.25 feet tall Kalash was made for the central sanctum of the temple while other smaller sanctums have Kalash measuring 3 feet each. The main temple dedicated to Lord Vishu and Goddess Lakshmi has been built using 8 lakh bricks. Notably, the temple is still under construction and it is expected that the works will be completed soon.

Such is the majesty and grandeur of the temple that it is known as the fifth dham. The temple will house 24 different avatars of Lord Vishnu, with a separate temple dedicated to each of them. Architecture of the temple

24 Avtaar Temple presents a fine specimen of the Chalukya style of architecture. Built over a vast expanse of land, the temple encircles the Vishnu-Lakshmi temple, which has been built as per the famed Somnath Temple. With a towering height of 121 feet, the temple shelters idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi measuring 9.25 feet and 7.25 feet respectively. Further, the other temples within its premises are as tall as 52-53 feet. Around 90% of the first phase of construction is complete and the second stage would witness the establishment of temples dedicated to 11 avatars of Lord Rudra and 9 avatars of Goddess Durga.

Offerings of the temple

Jaggery (Gud) and Chana Dal are offered to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi at the 24 Avtar Temple. Devotees also present fruits, dry fruits and laddoo to the deities.
