The Shri Veni Madhav Temple in Prayagraj, mentioned in sacred texts such as the Matsya Purana, Agni Purana, and Padma Purana, is considered the first seat of Lord Vishnu in the region. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Vishnu chose to reside in Prayagraj after saving His devotees from the demon Gajakarna. The demon had swallowed the holy waters of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, disrupting their sacred flow. In a fierce battle, Lord Vishnu used His mighty Sudarshana Chakra to behead Gajakarna. As the demon fell, the waters of the three sacred rivers flowed out and returned to their original courses. To protect the sanctity of the Triveni Sangam, Lord Vishnu decided to reside in Prayagraj as Veni Madhav for eternity. It is believed that performing this puja at the Shri Veni Madhav Temple on the auspicious day of Jaya Ekadashi fulfills the desires of devotees and blesses them with wealth and prosperity. Following Narada Muni’s advice, the demon took a purifying bath in the Triveni Sangam, which healed his ailments.
