In this Rahu temple located in Uttarakhand, Rahu is worshipped along with Lord Shiva. This is one of those temples in the country, where Rahu is worshipped with Lord Shiva. It is believed that Rahu and Ketu are parts of the body of the demon named Swarbhanu. According to the mythological story, during the churning of the ocean, when Swarbhanu drank the nectar by deceit by sitting in the row of the gods, Lord Vishnu came to know about his deceit and he cut off his head from his body with his Sudarshan Chakra so that he would not become immortal, but due to drinking the nectar, Swarbhanu had become immortal. The lower part of Swarbhanu became Ketu, and the part above the torso with the head was called Rahu. This head part, after being cut by the Sudarshan, fell at this place located in Pauri, which came to be known as Rahu Temple.
It is believed that people go to the Rahu temple to remove various defects caused by Rahu. Here, especially Kalasarpa Dosha, Rahu-Ketu Dosha, and Rahu Mahadasha are worshipped to get relief. It is mentioned in many places that this temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya. But there is another story about this temple which says that it was built by the Pandavas when they were on the journey of Svargarohini, at that time to avoid Rahu Dosha, the Pandavas worshipped Lord Shiva and Rahu in this temple.
