The village is religiously important because, according to mythology, it was considered the capital of Himavat and the sacred place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married.
It is believed that the wedding took place in a large havan kund where sacred fire was lit in all four directions. Gods including Brahma and Vishnu, along with many sages, attended the divine ceremony. Even today, devotees carry home the sacred ash from this fire as a blessing for a happy married life.
The name Triyuginarayan means “witness of three ages,” as the site is believed to have existed through three yugas. The temple complex contains four sacred kunds: Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, Brahma Kund, and Saraswati Kund. Their waters are considered highly holy, and it is believed that the gods bathed here during the wedding. The Saraswati Kund is especially sacred, believed to have originated from Lord Vishnu’s navel.
