It is believed that the sacred sound "Om" was first uttered by Lord Brahma, the creator. No Vedic recitation begins without "Om". As per legend, after travelling through the three worlds, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night. It is said that this is the only temple on earth where Shiva and Parvati play the game of chaupar (dice) every night. After the night shayan aarti, a chaupar board is placed and the sanctum is closed. Mysteriously, even though no bird or creature can enter at night, the chaupar pieces are found scattered the next morning. This fact adds to the temple’s religious significance.
