According to legend, during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), the demon Swarbhanu deceitfully drank the nectar of immortality. On seeing this, Lord Vishnu cut off his head with the Sudarshan Chakra. It is believed that the place where Swarbhanu’s head fell is where this temple was established. This head came to be known as “Rahu.” In this temple, alongside Lord Shiva, there is an idol of the headless Rahu.
