Located on the Vindhya Mountains in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, the ancient Maa Vindhyavasini Devi Mandir is a major center of Shakti worship and one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of India. The temple is located near the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet. According to legend, Maa Lalita Devi manifested where the finger of Sati's hand fell. The Kalighat Temple, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hinduism and is considered a highly significant pilgrimage site. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, revered as the deity of power, energy, and destruction. According to mythological tales, it is believed that here, the right toe of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her burnt body and performing the Tandava dance in grief.
According to the Puranas, the Shri Tarapeeth Temple in West Bengal is considered a sacred center for Tantric sadhana. Maa Tara, ranked second among the 10 Mahavidyas, resides here in her gentle and compassionate form. It is believed that during the event when Lord Vishnu dismembered Maa Sati’s body with the Sudarshan Chakra, the pupil of her eye fell at this place. In Bengali, the pupil of the eye is called “Tara,” which is why the site is named Tarapeeth.
The Katyayani Shakti Peeth Temple is among the 51 revered Shakti Peethas in Hinduism. It is dedicated to Maa Parvati in her Katyayani form. Every year, the temple is flooded with pilgrims who come to pray to Goddess Katyayani and seek her blessings. The temple was built by a saint named Kesavanand Maharaj, an ardent devotee of Maa Katyayani, who had a dream in which Katyayani Devi asked him to come to Vrindavan and build a temple.
