The month of Sawan is considered the most sacred and powerful time for the worship of Lord Shiva. It is believed that this month offers a profound opportunity for the soul to draw closer to Lord Shiva, where every prayer, every chant, and every abhishek becomes a channel for infusing new energy into a devoteeās life. This time allows for deep purification of the mind, actions, and soul, and strengthens oneās connection with the Divine. Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga, the twelfth and final among the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, holds an immensely revered place and is located near the Devagiri hills in Maharashtra. It is not just a pilgrimage site but a symbol of unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva. According to ancient legends, a devoted woman named Ghushma would worship 101 Parthiv Shivlings (Shivlings made of clay) daily and immerse them in a sacred pond. One day, driven by jealousy, her own sister killed her son. Yet, Ghushma did not abandon her worship. Pleased with her true devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before her, restored her son to life, and promised to reside at that very place. From then on, the site came to be known as Grishneshwar.
In keeping with this deep faith and tradition, a special Shiv Rudrabhishek is being organized this Sawan Monday at the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga. During this sacred ritual, the Shiva Linga will be bathed with water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar, accompanied by the chanting of Rudra mantras and the performance of a havan (sacred fire ritual). This puja is especially intended for devotees who have been experiencing mental unrest, physical exhaustion, or a sense of imbalance in their home and family environment. The Rudrabhishek performed at Grishneshwar helps calm the mind and supports the harmonization and balance of oneās inner energy.

However, seeing her sisterās joy, Sudha became consumed with jealousy. In a cruel act, she killed the child and threw his body into the pond. When Ghushma came to know of this heartbreaking incident, she did not lose her faith. Instead, she remained calm and continued her worship of Lord Shiva with unwavering devotion. Moved by her true devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before her, brought her son back to life, and asked her to request a boon. Ghushma asked that her sister be forgiven and requested Lord Shiva to reside at that very place forever. Lord Shiva accepted her wish and declared that He would be worshipped there as Ghushmeshwar. Thus, the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga came into existence. Even today, devotees perform 101 circumambulations (parikramas) of the temple in memory of Ghushmaās devotion, believing that where there is true faith, the Divine Himself manifests.
