Shaktipeeth Mahalakshmi Ambabai – The Shri Mahalakshmi Ambabai Temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, is one of the major Shaktipeeths in India. According to mythology, Goddess Sati’s two eyes fell at this very place, and since then, Goddess Lakshmi has been enshrined here. The temple, believed to be more than 7,000 years old, houses a divine idol of Goddess Lakshmi. Twice a year, the rays of the sun directly fall on the feet of the Goddess. During this period, the festival of Kiranotsav is celebrated here.
