The history of Pisach Mochan Kund is ancient. it is believed to have existed even before the descent of Mother Ganga on Earth. The kund is associated with a Brahmin named ‘Pisach,’ who was cursed to be reborn in a Pisach (spirit) form due to his karmas. As advised by Sage Valmiki, he bathed in the kund and worshipped Lord Kapardeshwar Mahadev, which freed him from the Pisach form. Since then, the site has been known as Pisach Mochan. A sacred peepal tree near the kund is believed to be inhabited by unsatisfied souls awaiting Shraddha and Tarpan from their descendants.
