Shravana month is considered one of the holiest periods in the Hindu calendar, a time when prayers offered with devotion are believed to reach the divine more powerfully. The first Ekadashi of this sacred month is called Putrada Ekadashi, a day dedicated to Lord Satyanarayana, especially revered for those seeking their blessings for parenthood.
Lord Krishna once mentioned to Yudhishthira that, as per the Bhavishya Purana, there once lived a noble king named Suketuman, who, along with his queen Shaibya, was deeply troubled by the absence of a child. Fearing that his ancestors would remain without peace due to the lack of a descendant to perform shraddha, the king left his palace in sorrow and wandered into the forest. On the day of Putrada Ekadashi, he arrived at the banks of Lake Manasarovar, where he encountered ten divine sages, known as the Vishvadevas. They advised him to offer puja to Lord Satyanarayana on that day with full devotion. Following their guidance, the king performed the fast and rituals, and soon after, he was blessed with a son who grew up to become a wise and heroic ruler.
Because of this, Putrada Ekadashi is known as the Ekadashi that grants children and is considered highly auspicious for couples who wish to experience parenthood.
