Kashi is called the city of Mahadev and it is believed that nothing happens here without the permission of Bhairav Baba. He is considered the protector of the entire city. According to mythological history, once a dispute arose between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu as to who is the supreme. Wherever this head separates from your hand, you will get freedom from this sin there. When Bhairav Baba reached Kashi, then that head separated from his hand and he got relief from the sin. After this, Lord Shiva appointed him as the protector of Kashi.
