Rahu Paithani Temple located in Uttarakhand is considered one of those rare temples in India where special puja of Rahu Dev is performed. According to mythological stories, during the churning of the ocean, the demon Svarbhanu sat among the gods and began to drink nectar. Then Lord Vishnu separated his head with his Sudarshan Chakra. Since he had tasted the nectar, he became immortal. The upper part of his body was called Rahu and the lower part Ketu. It is believed that after being separated by the Sudarshan Chakra, Rahu's head fell at this very place in Pauri district, where the Rahu Paithani temple is situated today. Therefore, this place is considered extremely important for Rahu worship.
According to local belief, devotees come here to perform puja for relief from defects related to Rahu. Puja is performed here specifically for the peace of effects related to Kaal Sarp Dosh, Rahu-Ketu Dosh, and Rahu Mahadasha.
