The Kund is tied to an ancient legend. It is said that this sacred place existed even before the descent of the Ganga. A Brahmin, cursed by his actions to become a pishach (spirit), bathed here after worshipping Kapardeshwar Mahadev under the guidance of Sage Valmiki and attained liberation.
