According to scriptures, after the Samudra Manthan, Lord Dhanvantari requested a place from Lord Vishnu. Vishnu granted him a divine boon that he would incarnate in the next Dvapara Yuga in a royal family and be worshipped across the three worlds.
According to this boon, in the Dvapara Yuga, Lord Dhanvantari was born as the son of King Kasha in Kashi. He later studied Ayurveda under Rishi Bharadwaj, categorized it into eight branches, and acquired vast knowledge of medical treatments, showing humanity the path of divine health. This special puja is performed to seek blessings for better health, protection, and relief from illnesses for the entire family.
