Skanda Shashti is a sacred day dedicated to Lord Subramanya, who is worshipped as the protector and guardian of the Naga Devatas. Since Lord Subramanya rules and protects the Nagas, prayers offered to the Naga Devatas on this auspicious day are believed to reach them easily. 🛕Sri Prasanna Subramanya Temple - Ramanathapura🙏

The Sri Prasanna Subramanya Temple at Ramanathapura is not only a shrine for Lord Subramanya but also deeply connected to Naga energies. It is believed to have been established around 500 years ago by Sri Vibhudesha Theertharu of the Kukke Subramanya Matha, after the Lord appeared in divine visions to him and King Narasappa Nayaka. Theertharu brought a seven-hooded black Saligrama idol from the matha, but when he tried to take it beyond Ramanathapura, it mysteriously refused to move, as if the Nagas had chosen this spot. That night, Lord Subramanya appeared in Theertharu’s dream, expressing his wish to remain there to bless devotees and protect them from Sarpa Dosha, Naga Dosha, and malefic influences. Following this, Theertharu and Narasappa Nayaka installed the idol and built the temple, which follows the Dvaita tradition and is closely linked to Kukke Subramanya Matha. Known for its ancient rituals and powerful Naga energies, the temple is one of the most significant centres of Subramanya worship in South India, where the Lord is revered in his benevolent form.

There are many inspiring stories among devotees who faced immense challenges and sought the blessings of Sri Prasanna Subramanya Temple. One of them goes like this: One day, a cobra entered a couple’s home. While trying to drive it away, the snake was accidentally injured and began to bleed. Believing they were showing mercy, the couple considered ending its suffering. Later, when the wife gave birth, they were shocked to find that their child’s skin had markings resembling a snake. Terrified and desperate, they sought medical help, but they offered no solution. In desperation, they learned that the cause was Sarpa Dosha linked to the Naga they killed. Following guidance, they visited the Sri Prasanna Subramanya Temple in Ramanathapura, known for its divine connection with Lord Subramanya and the Naga Devtas. With sincere devotion and worship at the temple, the child was miraculously healed, and the markings disappeared. This incident became a lasting testimony to the power of the temple and the benevolence of the Naga Devtas for those who seek relief from Sarpa Dosha with faith and reverence.

The Naga Pratistha Puja is a powerful ritual performed to invoke the blessings of the Naga Devtas and seek relief from major obstacles in life. During this puja, the Naga idol is consecrated and worshipped with Abhishekam using sacred substances, accompanied by the chanting of potent Sarpa Traya mantras. A Homam (fire ritual) is performed to amplify the divine energy, and offerings of flowers, fruits, and lamps are made with devotion. Participating in this auspicious ceremony invites the grace of the Naga Devtas, bringing protection and the removal of challenges, while blessing devotees with peace, prosperity, and spiritual strength.

Located on the banks of the River Kaveri, the Sri Prasanna Subramanya Temple in Ramanathapura, Karnataka, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Subramanya, closely associated with the sacred energies of the Nagas. It is believed to have been established about 500 years ago by Sri Vibhudesha Theertharu of the Kukke Subramanya Matha, after the Lord appeared in divine visions to him and King Narasappa Nayaka. During his travels, theertharu brought a beautiful seven-hooded black Saligrama idol of Lord Subramanya from the matha. When he tried to take the idol further from Ramanathapura, it mysteriously refused to move, as if the Nagas themselves had chosen this place as the Lord’s abode. That night, Lord Subramanya appeared in theertharu’s dream and revealed that he wished to remain in Ramanathapura, blessing devotees and protecting them from Sarpa Dosha, Naga Dosha, and the malefic effects of enemies.

Following this divine command, Sri Vibhudesha Theertharu installed the idol, and the temple was built by both Theertharu and Narasappa Nayaka, which came to be known as Sri Prasanna Subramanya Temple. Here, Swamy is said to be in his benevolent form. The temple follows the Dvaita tradition and is closely associated with the powerful Kukke Subramanya Matha. The ancient rituals and the deep presence of Naga energies make it one of the most significant centres of Subramanya worship in South India.
