Skanda Shashti Murugan Special
Skanda Shashti is a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Skanda, the God of war and the son of Shiva and Parvati. Known by various names like Murugan, Kartikeyan, and Subramanya, this festival is observed on the Sashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha each month. Worshipping Lord Murugan is believed to fulfill all wishes and destroy enemies. Born to defeat the demon Tarakasura, Kartikeya emerged as the god of war, fulfilling a boon granted by Lord Shiva. Representing six siddhis, Lord Murugan is revered as their bestower, especially in Tamil Nadu. According to legends, Lord Murugan is also regarded as the deity of the southern direction because he chose to live in South India after leaving his heavenly abode.

Initially, plans were made to construct a temple near the existing Lord Murugan temple in Pazhani. However, it was eventually decided to build the temple in Salem. On August 26, 1946, the foundation for the temple was laid, marking the beginning of its construction.
The temple was completed on January 23, 1961, and consecrated as the Sri Kavadi Pazhani Andavar Temple. Alongside the main sanctum, shrines for the Navagrahas (nine celestial deities) and other sacred spaces were added, and the Kumbabhishekam (sacred consecration ceremony) was performed. On February 1, 1971, the temple further expanded with the construction of the majestic Raja Gopuram (royal tower) and shrines for Goddess Kali, the Sun, and Moon gods. This temple is also revered as the 9th Padai Veedu (sacred abode) of Lord Murugan, making it a significant site of worship for devotees.
