According to the Puranas, it was on this day that Lord Krishna gifted the ‘Akshay Patra’ to Draupadi-a vessel that provided an inexhaustible supply of food. This is also the day Lord Shiva took the form of a beggar and accepted alms from Maa Annapurna in Kashi. Maa Annapurna is the Goddess of Food, and the secret of the Akshay Patra lies in Her grace.
