🔱🌕 Once a year, on Karwa Chauth–Vakratunda Sankashti, Lord Ganesha, the remover of marital obstacles and conflicts and the Lord of Riddhi-Siddhi, and his mother Maa Gauri in her Chauth Mata form come together in worship. Devotees seek their combined blessings to overcome obstacles in married life and bring harmony, love and prosperity to their relationship.
Millions of married women observe the Karwa Chauth fast every year, believing it to be dedicated to Maa Parvati, also worshipped as Chauth Mata. This is indeed an important tradition. However, the Narada Purana also highlights another aspect of this observance that many people may not know.
Narada Purana: On Kartik Krishna Chaturthi, the Karaka Chaturthi (Karwa Chauth) fast is observed, and married women are advised to worship Lord Ganesha. This connects Karwa Chauth not only with Chauth Mata but also with Kapardi Ganesha (Vakratunda). Lord Ganesha is revered as the presiding deity of Chaturthi tithis, and Ganesha worship traditionally forms the first step in the Karwa Chauth rituals.
🌙 Karwa Chauth & Vakratunda Sankashti - A Rare Conjunction:
This year, Karwa Chauth and Vakratunda Sankashti Chaturthi fall on the same day. Along with Chauth Mata, devotees also worship Vakratunda Ganesha on this occasion. 'Vakratunda' refers to the form of Ganesha whose curved trunk symbolises the power to overcome complex and difficult obstacles. He is revered as a symbol of righteousness, justice and freedom from obstacles.
