History of the Shri Radha Raman Temple

The temple is over 500 years old and was established by Gopal Bhatt Swami, a great devotee of Lord Krishna. After the sudden departure of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Gopal Bhatt Swami had a divine dream in which the Lord told him to go to Nepal. He followed this instruction and bathed in the Kaligandaki River, where he found 12 sacred Shaligram stones in his water pot. These Shaligrams are believed to be forms of Lord Vishnu. He brought them to Vrindavan, and they are still worshipped in the temple today. The current temple structure was built in 1826 by Shah Bihari Lalji from Lucknow.

Significance of the Shri Radha Raman Temple

The temple is special because it has the original Shaligram deity of Lord Radha Raman. Unlike other temples, this one does not have a separate idol of Radha Ji because the Radha Raman deity is believed to include Radha within Krishna himself, making it self-manifested (Swayambhu). Many important Hindu festivals are celebrated at the temple with great enthusiasm. The temple draws devotees from India and around the world.

Architecture of the Shri Radha Raman Temple

Shri Radha Raman Temple is built in a modern Hindu style. The main idol of Lord Radha Raman is carved from Shaligram stone, which is considered very sacred. The temple is located close to the river, which adds to its peaceful and natural surroundings. Inside the temple, there is also the samadhi (resting place) of Gopal Bhatt Goswami, the founder of the temple. It is also said that the clothes worn by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu are preserved and kept inside the temple.
