Annapurna Temple in Indore was originally built in the 9th century. It was rebuilt in 1959 by Brahmaleen Swami Prabhanand Giri Maharaj. He was born on 14 January 1911 in Andhra Pradesh. At the age of 15, he left home to live a spiritual life. After years of meditation, especially at Girnar Hills, he came to Indore in 1955. There, he stayed near the Ranjeet Hanuman Temple and meditated under a Banyan tree at the site of the present Annapurna Temple. With help from local devotees, he rebuilt the temple, and the new idol was installed in a grand ceremony on 22 February 1959.
The temple is dedicated to Ma Annapurna, the Goddess of food. The idol of the goddess is decorated (shringaar) three times a day. If you want to participate in this ceremony, you must inform the temple office in advance and provide the saree and other materials a day before. The temple also runs the Annapoorna School and the Annapoorna Ved Vedang School to provide free religious and general education to underprivileged children.

There are also smaller shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Kal Bhairav. The entrance is grand, with four large elephant statues.
