First Day of Maha Navratri 101KG Khichdi Distribution Seva to Needy

There are some Sevas that begin with a very simple question: When was the last time you made sure someone around you did not go hungry? On the first day of Navratri, there will be people who have nothing to eat. People for whom this sacred day may pass like any other difficult day. A warm bowl of Khichdi placed in their hands will not solve everything. But it will mean that, today at least, they were not forgotten. That is what this 101KG Khichdi Distribution Seva is about.

Why Perform Bhojan Seva During Navratri? Devi Bhagavatam records a time when a famine lasting 100 years brought the earth to its knees. When the hungry wept and the earth cried out, Shakambhari Devi appeared, a nourishing form of Maa Durga who fed the hungry herself. To perform Bhojan Seva during Navratri is to honour Maa Durga not only through prayer, but through action by doing what she herself once did: feeding those who were hungry.

Why Perform 101KG Khichdi Seva?

In the Puranic tradition, 100 represents Purna - completeness. The additional 1 in 101 is traditionally associated with Maa Durga’s grace returning to the one who gives. And Khichdi carries a story of its own. When Shiva himself came to Maa Annapurna with a begging bowl, it was Khichdi that she placed in his hands - simple, nourishing and sattvic, offered without condition to one who came hungry. To offer Khichdi to someone in need today is to carry forward that same act of compassion.

Why Shri Nav Durga Temple, Katra?

Shri Nav Durga Temple is a sacred shrine where all nine forms of Maa Durga are worshipped in Pindi Swaroop. Among them is Maa Annapurna, whose very name carries the meaning behind this Seva - Anna means food, and Purna means complete. Anna Seva performed here is not offered before just one form of the Goddess. It is offered at a sacred ground where all nine forms are worshipped together.

Through Sri Mandir, the complete 101KG Khichdi Distribution Seva will be performed at Shri Nav Durga Temple, Katra on the first day of Navratri, in your name. A video of the Seva will reach you within 24–48 hours.

This booking is a collective act of service, made meaningful by everyone who participates. It is a shared contribution towards a higher purpose. Through this collective offering, we are able to carry this sacred initiative forward and reach many more people in need.
