2026 Last Somvati Amavasya Pitru Tripti Gaya Ji Kagwas Seva (Crow Seva)

You must have seen the elders in your family place food outside for crows before eating, saying that what the crow consumes reaches the ancestors. This is one of the oldest and most precisely prescribed acts in the Shraddh tradition. But when that same Seva is performed at Gaya Ji on 2026’s last Somvati Amavasya, the ground the Garuda Purana declares as the supreme Pitru Teerth in all of creation, the offering reaches them with the full force of Vishnu's liberating grace behind it, across seven generations simultaneously.

Why is this Somvati Amavasya so Special>
Amavasya is the time when ancestors draw close enough to receive what is offered. Pitryana, the path of ancestors, is directly governed by the Moon, also known as Soma. When Amavasya falls on a Monday (Somvar) both forces align, making it a day of exceptional power for Pitru Shanti. And this is the last such Somvati Amavasya of 2026, making it the final opportunity this year to perform this offering under these conditions.

🔱Why Crow is the Pitru-Doot?
Valmiki Ramayana carries the origin of this tradition precisely. When Ravana was hunting the gods, Yama took the form of a black crow to escape him. Grateful for the crow's help, Yama declared that food offered to ancestors would reach them when consumed by the crow. This is why the crow became the Pitru-doot, the sacred messenger between the living and the departed, designated by the Lord of the ancestral realm himself. When the crow accepts the Kaakbali, it is Yama's own messenger confirming that the ancestor has received the offering.

Kaakbali is one of the five prescribed Balis within the Parvana Shraddha tradition and it carries something no other offering does: a visible sign of acceptance.

🔱 Why Gaya Ji Multiplies This Seva
Gaya is a Vishnu Teerth, the ground where Vishnu pressed Gayasur beneath his divine lotus feet and liberation followed in a single act of grace. That liberating power has remained permanently active in the earth of Gaya ever since. Puranic tradition associates Gaya Shraddh with liberation extending across seven generations and Gaya Seva seeks Pitru Tripti for all ancestors, irrespective of what state they are in.

Through Sri Mandir, Kagwas Seva is performed at Gaya Ji during Amavasya, in your name. A video reaches you within 24–48 hours.
