Yam Dwitiya Suraksha Pradayak Yama-Yamuna Chadhava & Seva

🪔✨ Yama Dwitiya — The day when Lord Yama Himself bestowed a divine boon: "A brother who visits his sister's home on this day shall be freed from the fear of untimely death!"
The Puranas describe a divine tale of Lord Yama and Goddess Yamuna, both children of Surya Dev, who were separated from each other during childhood. Hurt by the harsh behaviour of Chhaya, their stepmother, Yamuna left her home and made her abode at Vishram Ghat in Mathura. Lord Yama was so occupied with his duties in Yamalok that he could not visit his sister. But one day, on Kartik Shukla Dwitiya, Lord Yama finally arrived at Vishram Ghat to meet Yamuna.
Yamuna welcomed her brother, performed his aarti, applied a tilak on his forehead, and lovingly served him a meal. Pleased and satisfied, Lord Yama asked, "Sister, ask for a boon." Yamuna did not ask for a material gift, but for an everlasting blessing:"O Brother! May every brother who receives a tilak from his sister on this day be freed from the fear of untimely death. And may whoever bathes in the waters of Yamuna be freed from the suffering of Yamalok." Lord Yama accepted her request. That divine boon is believed to live on even today, at the very same ghat and temple.

🏛️ India's Only Yama–Yamuna Temple — 4,900 Years Old:
Shri Yamuna Dharmaraj Temple at Vishram Ghat is India's only temple where Lord Yama (Dharmaraj) and Maa Yamuna are worshipped together as brother and sister. The temple was established approximately 4,900 years ago by Vajranabha, the great-grandson of Lord Krishna. The black-stone idols of Lord Yama and Goddess Yamuna have their hands raised in blessing, as if saying: "We are here, and we hold the divine boon of protection for your brother." This is the very sacred land where Maa Yamuna made her home. Performing Yama–Yamuna Chadhava here is believed to invoke the original divine boon of Lord Yama.

🤔 Why Is This the Most Auspicious Day of Diwali Panchak?
According to the scriptures, all five days of Diwali are dedicated to worship for protection from untimely death: Yama Deepam on Dhanteras, the sacred morning bath on Narak Chaturdashi, Lakshmi Puja on Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and finally, Yama Dwitiya — the concluding and most auspicious day of this five-day period. On this day, Lord Yama is believed to be especially accessible to devotees because it marks the day He visited His sister. Worship and offerings to Him on this day are considered especially fruitful.
