🏔️✨Govardhan Puja the day when Giridhar Himself promises to shoulder your burdens!
The divine leela from the Bhagavata Purana still echoes through the soil of Braj. It was the day when a young boy lifted the entire Govardhan Hill on his little finger to protect all of Braj. Indra's wrath had unleashed torrential rain, but Kanhaiya stood firm. For seven days and seven nights, He neither let go of the mountain, nor abandoned His devotees, nor left His beloved Gau Mata unprotected. On the seventh day, when Indra's pride was humbled and the rain finally stopped, Indra himself bowed at Kanhaiya's feet. Since then, Govardhan Puja on Kartik Shukla Pratipada has carried the same timeless message: those who seek refuge in Giridhar are protected by the Lord Himself.

🤔 What is the 'Tri-Seva Mahayog' and what does it signify on Govardhan Puja?
When Indra's wrath subsided and Kanhaiya finally lowered the mountain on the seventh day, the joyful people of Braj performed three acts that became immortal in the scriptures:

First, they offered Annakoot to Giriraj because Kanhaiya had remained without food for seven days and seven nights. Since He usually ate eight meals a day, He had missed 7 × 8 = 56 meals. To honour this, 56 food preparations were offered to Him, giving rise to the tradition of 'Chhappan Bhog'.

Second, they worshipped Gau Mata the very cows Kanhaiya had protected by lifting the mountain, and the ones He loved dearly.

Third, they offered food to Brahmins to fulfil their Dev Rin (debt towards the divine) and Dharma Rin (duty towards righteousness).

Together, these three acts of service form the 'Tri-Seva Mahayog'. The scriptures say that a devotee who performs all three together receives the complete spiritual merit of Govardhan Dharan.

🐄 Why is Gau Seva important, and why is it especially significant in Mathura?
The Govardhan Hill provided grass to the cows, and Kanhaiya lifted the mountain on His little finger to protect them. The Vedas and Puranas describe Gau Mata as the abode of 33 crore deities. Dev Indra himself is said to have declared, "All sacred pilgrimage sites reside within the cow." Serving Gau Mata is therefore considered an act of worshipping all the deities together. And when Gau Seva is performed in Mathura, the very birthplace of Gopal Kanhaiya, its spiritual merit is said to multiply a thousandfold. The Gau Seva performed in your name at Parmarth Gaushala reaches Govind's heart directly.
