Learn the divine story of Ganesh Jayanti, marking the birth of Lord Ganesha. Devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, and celebrate this auspicious day for blessings of intelligence, success, and harmony.
According to Hindu mythology, there are many stories about Lord Ganesha's birth. One popular tale is about how Goddess Parvati wanted an obedient son who would always follow her instructions. Using sandalwood paste from her body, she created Baby Ganesha. After his creation, she asked him to guard the entrance while she bathed, allowing no one to enter. While Ganesha stood guard, Lord Shiva (Mahadev) came to meet Goddess Parvati. Ganesha, obeying his mother’s command, stopped Shiva from entering. Despite Shiva’s attempts to explain, Ganesha didn’t allow him inside. This angered Shiva, and he used his trident to sever Ganesha’s head. When Goddess Parvati learned of this, she was furious and took on the form of Goddess Kali, threatening to destroy the universe in her rage. To calm her and prevent destruction, Shiva replaced Ganesha’s head with that of an elephant, bringing him back to life. Following this, all the gods blessed Ganesha, making him the wisest and most revered deity.
