It is believed that listening to this story brings fame, wealth, happiness, and children, and grants entry into Vaikuntha after death.
The Vrat Katha In ancient times, Maharishi Kashyap's wife, Diti, gave birth to two mighty sons, Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha. Together, they defeated the gods and took control of heaven. Their tyranny caused chaos among the gods, prompting Lord Vishnu to take the Varaha avatar and kill Hiranyaksha. Enraged by his brother's death, Hiranyakashipu considered Vishnu his enemy and vowed revenge. He performed intense penance to please Lord Brahma and gained a boon, making him almost invincible. While Hiranyakashipu was away, the gods reclaimed heaven by defeating the demons. Hiranyakashipu's pregnant wife, Kayadhu, was captured by Indra but was later freed upon the advice of Sage Narada, who told Indra that her unborn child was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Narada brought Kayadhu to his ashram, where she stayed and listened to his divine teachings, influencing the unborn child. Kayadhu gave birth to Prahlad, who grew up devoted to Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu sent him to a guru to be educated, but when asked about his best learning, Prahlad praised Lord Vishnu, enraging Hiranyakashipu. Despite warnings and threats, Prahlad’s faith never wavered. Furious, Hiranyakashipu ordered his men to kill Prahlad. However, due to Lord Vishnu's protection, Prahlad remained unharmed. Hiranyakashipu then ordered his sister Holika to sit in fire with Prahlad, as she had a boon protecting her from flames. Prahlad, lost in prayer to Lord Vishnu, remained unharmed, while Holika burned to ashes. This event marked the triumph of devotion and the defeat of evil.
