Mythological Story of Sita Navami

The festival of Sita Navami is celebrated every year on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. It is said that Mata Sita was born on this day; hence, it is also called Janaki Navami. This day is too auspicious for a girl.

No mythological book has any information regarding Mata Sita birth but they mentioned she was found in the field of Mithila.

Mithila was a prosperous kingdom near Nepal. It was ruled by King Janak. King Janak was a very wise and religious king. Once, there was no rain in his kingdom for many years. The fields dried up, and people were upset. He worshipped many gods but nothing worked. His subject was struggling to produce even one time of food to sustain their family. After trying a lot of remedies, a saint suggested to King Janak that if he plowed the fields himself, Mother Earth would be happy, and it would rain.

When King Janak was plowing the field with his plow, the tip of the plow hit a mysterious box in one place. There, he saw a cute little girl in a golden vessel. The girl was very beautiful, and her face was radiant. King Janak considered her the boon from the earth. He didn't have a child so he adopted her.

King Janak raised Sita like his daughter. He taught Sita everything, from sanskar, dharma, humanity to art of war. When Sita grew up, King Janak held a swayamvara for her. He said, “The warrior who breaks the bow of Lord Shiva will be able to marry Sita.”

This part of the Ramayana is very famous. Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, broke that bow. Sita and Rama got married that day. After this, the life of Rama and Sita was full of ups and downs. Exile, the Abduction of Sita by Ravana, and War of Lanka, all these are important parts of Ramayana.

On this day, people perform special prayers. Women observe fasts and pray to Maa Sita for the well-being of their families. Worshipping Sita Mata and Ram Ji on this day brings happiness and peace in married life.

Sita Mata's life tells us how to live with patience and respect even in difficult times.
