Learn the divine story of Parivartini Ekadashi Fast, when Lord Vishnu changes his resting posture during Chaturmas, and devotees pray for positive change and divine grace.
Once, King Yudhishthir asked Lord Krishna about the significance of the Ekadashi that falls during the bright fortnight of the Bhadrapada month. He said, "O Lord, you are the protector of Brahmins and omniscient. Please explain to me the importance of this Ekadashi." Lord Krishna responded that the Ekadashi during this time is known as Parivartini Ekadashi or Parsva Ekadashi. This Ekadashi is extremely auspicious and helps in freeing a person from material bonds. Lord Krishna further explained that simply hearing about the greatness of this Ekadashi can rid someone of sins from past lifetimes. Those who observe this fast with devotion receive merits equivalent to performing the Ashwamedha Yagna. Lord Krishna recommended that anyone wishing to escape material bondage should observe this Ekadashi and worship Lord Vamanadev. By doing so, they gain the blessings of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and after death, they reach Lord Vishnu's divine abode. It is said that during the Chaturmas period, Lord Vishnu, while resting in Yoga Nidra, changes sides on this day, which is why it is called Parivartini Ekadashi.
