Discover the divine story of Pithori Amavasya, where mothers observe rituals and prayers with devotion, seeking blessings for their children’s health, happiness, and protection.
According to ancient legends, long ago, twelve lion spirits lived on Somras (divine nectar). Among them, one spirit conceived and gave birth to a beautiful daughter named Achhoda. Raised under her mother’s care, Achhoda always felt the absence of her father. To fulfill her wish of having a father, the lion spirits decided that Achhoda would be reborn as the daughter of King Amavasu. King Amavasu was a renowned and noble king who raised Achhoda with love and care. Achhoda was overjoyed to receive a father’s affection, and she wanted to express gratitude to the spirits of the Pitru Lok (realm of ancestors). To honor them, she performed rituals on the darkest night of the month when the moon was absent. Achhoda’s devotion brought her immense joy and blessings—more than what she had in heaven. Since then, the moonless sky became known as Amavasya, named after King Amavasu. It is believed that on this day, the ancestors return to Earth to bless their loved ones. According to Hindu traditions, during rituals for the ancestors, the moon should not be visible. Hence, Amavasya is considered the ideal day for Shraddha (rituals honoring ancestors). This marks the conclusion of the Darsh Amavasya story. May the blessings of the ancestors and divine grace bring happiness and prosperity to your life!
