Learn the divine story behind Padmini Ekadashi Fast, where devotees observe fasting and rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu for the purification of the soul and fulfillment of wishes.
According to religious beliefs, observing or listening to the story of Padmini Ekadashi brings great virtues. Here is the story: During the Mahabharata era, Lord Krishna explained the significance of all Ekadashis to Yudhishthira. Curious, Yudhishthira asked about the Ekadashi that falls during the extra month (Adhika Masa). Lord Krishna explained that the Ekadashi in the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of Adhika Masa is called Padmini Ekadashi. He added that observing this fast or listening to its story grants immense merits. Devotees receive fame, wealth, and happiness, and ultimately attain Vaikuntha, the eternal abode of Lord Vishnu. In the Treta Yuga, there was a king named Kritaveerya who ruled Mahishmati city. Despite having a thousand queens, he had no children. Distressed about the future of his lineage, the king decided to perform penance. Along with his queen Padmini, he went to the Gandhamadan Mountain to meditate, leaving his kingdom under a minister's care. After 10,000 years of penance, they still didn’t have a child. A sage named Anusuya advised Queen Padmini to observe Padmini Ekadashi during Adhika Masa by fasting and worshipping Lord Vishnu with devotion. Following the instructions, Queen Padmini observed the fast with dedication and spent the night in prayers and hymns. Pleased by her devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared and blessed her with a son. Nine months later, she gave birth to Kartaveerya, a powerful and virtuous king. Since then, this Ekadashi is known as Padmini Ekadashi. Observing it is believed to fulfill desires and bring Lord Vishnu’s blessings. May you be blessed with happiness and prosperity through the Padmini Ekadashi Fast!
