Phulera Dooj Fast Story

Learn the beautiful story of Phulera Dooj Fast, a sacred occasion symbolizing the arrival of spring, where devotees worship Lord Kri

Phulera Dooj Story

The month of Phalgun brings several festivals that refresh our rich religious and cultural heritage. One such sacred festival is 'Phulera Dooj,' celebrated between Vasant Panchami and Holi. It is believed that on this day, Lord Krishna played Holi with flowers alongside Radha. This is why the festival is called 'Phulera Dooj.' This year, it falls on Tuesday, 12th March. On Phulera Dooj, devotees worship Radha and Krishna, decorate them with flowers, and play flower Holi with them. It is said that doing so fulfills all wishes quickly. Worshipping Radha and Krishna on this day removes all hardships and helps overcome future obstacles. According to astrology, Phulera Dooj is considered an "Abujh Muhurat," meaning an inherently auspicious time. Therefore, this day is ideal for weddings and other ceremonies without the need to consult a specific muhurat. It is believed that marriages performed on this day are blessed by Radha and Krishna, ensuring lifelong love and harmony between couples.

The Story Behind Phulera Dooj According to a mythological tale, there was a time when Lord Krishna could not visit Radha in Vrindavan for many days. Radha became extremely sad, and her sorrow affected not only the gopis and cowherds but also the trees, plants, and flowers in Mathura, which began to wither. When Krishna learned about Radha's distress, he immediately traveled to Vrindavan to meet her. Upon hearing the news of Krishna's arrival, Radha's face lit up with joy, and the gopis were delighted. The withered trees and flowers became lush and vibrant once again. Krishna then plucked flowers and playfully threw them at Radha. Radha, pleased, began throwing flowers back at him. Seeing this, the gopis and cowherds also started throwing flowers at each other. It is believed that since then, the festival of 'Phulera Dooj' has been celebrated with great enthusiasm. Every year, Mathura observes this day with the tradition of playing flower Holi.
