Kansa's Death Story

Learn the legendary story of Kansa's death, where Lord Krishna’s courage and divine power ended the reign of evil, bringing peace and righteousness to the world.

Kansa's Death Story in English

In the Dwapar Yuga, a prophecy led to the birth of Lord Krishna. The prophecy said that Kansa, the cruel king, would be killed by Devaki's eighth child. Knowing Krishna was the eighth child, Kansa tried many plans to kill him, but all his attempts failed. He sent demons to Gokul several times to kill Krishna, but Krishna defeated all of them. Fearing his death, Kansa devised a plan. He organized a grand event and sent Akroor to invite Krishna and Balram to Mathura under the guise of the festival. His real intention was to kill them during the event. When Krishna and Balram arrived in Mathura with Akroor, Kansa had already made arrangements to kill them. He placed a fierce elephant named Kuvalayapid at the gate, instructing the mahout to kill the brothers as soon as they entered. However, Krishna calmly approached the elephant, patted it, and the elephant died instantly. Angered by his failed plan, Kansa sent his strongest wrestlers, Chanur and Mushtik, to fight Krishna and Balram in a wrestling match. A large crowd gathered to watch. Krishna fought Chanur and defeated him by throwing him to the ground, while Balram struck Mushtik with a powerful punch, killing him. Seeing his wrestlers defeated, Kansa became furious and ordered his soldiers to attack. A battle erupted, but Krishna quickly approached Kansa, grabbed him by his hair, threw him to the ground, and struck his chest, killing him instantly. After Kansa's death, Krishna freed his parents from prison and made Kansa's father, Ugrasena, the king of Mathura once again. This event took place on the 10th day of the Kartik month (Krishna Paksha) and is celebrated as "Kansa Vadh," symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Let us all honor this day and pray to Lord Krishna!
