Learn the divine story behind Kaal Bhairav Jayanti, celebrating the fierce form of Lord Shiva who protects his devotees and destroys evil with unwavering power.
Once upon a time, the three main deities of the universe—Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma—were discussing their divine powers. During the conversation, Lord Vishnu praised Lord Shiva as the greatest of all, and the other gods agreed. However, Lord Brahma did not like this and said something that angered Lord Shiva. In his rage, a fierce form emerged from Lord Shiva's forehead and cut off one of Brahma's five heads. After much prayer from the gods, Lord Shiva calmed down, and this fierce form of Shiva became known as "Kaal Bhairav." This event occurred on the eighth day of the month of Margashirsha, and since then, this day has been celebrated as Kaal Bhairav Jayanti.
