Learn the divine story and importance of Chandra Darshan, where devotees observe this sacred moon sighting with prayers and rituals to invite peace, prosperity, and positivity into their lives.
One day, Lord Ganapati was traveling on his mouse vehicle, which moved in an unusual way. Suddenly, Ganapati fell off. Seeing this, Chandra Dev (Moon God) laughed, which angered Lord Ganapati. In his fury, Ganapati considered Chandra Dev’s laughter as an insult and cursed him. He declared that from that day onwards, no one would want to look at Chandra Dev. If anyone did, they would be falsely accused of theft and face disgrace. Chandra Dev, saddened by the curse, sought forgiveness from all the gods. The gods worshipped Lord Ganapati and requested him to modify the curse. Ganapati said, “I cannot revoke my curse, but I can make changes to it.” He altered the curse so that it would only be valid for one day—Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day, seeing the moon would be considered inauspicious. Additionally, Ganapati provided a solution: if someone unintentionally saw the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi, they could throw a small pebble or stone onto someone’s roof. This would remove the sin of moon sighting. This story teaches the significance of Chandra Darshan on Ganesh Chaturthi. May your fasting and prayers bring success, and may the blessings of Chandra Dev bring happiness and prosperity to your life!
