About 8 kilometres from Almora in Uttarakhand, in a village called Kasar, lies the ancient and powerful Kasar Devi Mata Temple. This temple is recognized as one of the 108 Siddh Shakti Peeths. It is believed that there is a unique magnetic force in the temple area, which has drawn interest from scientists and spiritual seekers alike. The temple gained further prominence after Swami Vivekananda meditated here. Every year, a Kasar Fair is held on Kartik Purnima, attracting thousands of devotees.

According to mythological sources, the Kasar Devi Temple dates back to the 2nd century. Situated on Kashyap Hill, the temple is believed to have been founded by followers of the ancient Kashyapa tradition, who migrated from Western Asia around 900 BCE. It is believed the name Kasar Devi originates from this community. Local legends state that the Katyuri kings, known for their devotion to Goddess Durga, later built the temple. It is also said that Goddess Katyayani, the sixth form of Navadurga, first appeared at this temple, which is why she is specially worshipped here. In 1890, Swami Vivekananda meditated at this location and reportedly attained deep spiritual realization. During the 1960s and 1970s, Kasar Devi became a notable spot for the hippie movement and attracted seekers from around the world. The temple is also part of the Van Allen Belt, a magnetic field around the Earth. Scientists, including those from NASA, have studied this area extensively. It is one of only three places in the world—along with Machu Picchu in South America and Stonehenge in England—where such intense magnetic fields exist. NASA has marked eight GPS gravity points in the temple premises to study this natural phenomenon.

Devotees believe that any wish made with a pure heart at Kasar Devi Temple is fulfilled. The magnetic field is believed to enhance the spiritual energy of individuals and support deep meditation. It is also said that Buddhist guru Lama Anagarika Govinda practiced special forms of meditation here. Many people report feeling an unusual sense of peace and clarity when visiting the temple. The temple, located on a rocky and cave-like setting atop Kashyap Hill, has a simple yet spiritually rich architecture. Surrounded by forests and panoramic views, the temple structure features an idol of Goddess Devi. Behind the idol is a stone carving resembling a lion, symbolizing divine protection. The temple's environment is peaceful, making it an ideal location for yoga and meditation. Over the years, the temple has seen minor renovations while preserving its ancient charm.

While there is no specific prasad system at Kasar Devi Temple, devotees typically offer fruits, flowers, coconuts, and scarves to the goddess as per personal devotion.

By Air: The nearest airport is Pantnagar Airport, around 120 kilometers from the temple. Taxis and buses are available from the airport.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, approximately 90 kilometers away. Regular taxis and buses can be taken from there.

By Road: Almora is well-connected by road to major cities like Delhi. The distance from Delhi to Kasar Devi is about 365 kilometers. Buses from Uttarakhand Transport Corporation and private vehicles are commonly used by visitors.
