Gopinath Temple, also known as Radha Gopinath Temple, is one of the seven main temples of Vrindavan. It is located near the Yamuna River at Keshi Ghat, in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. This temple holds a special place among Krishna devotees for its divine history and peaceful surroundings.

History of the Gopinath Temple

The exact history of the temple is not clearly documented. However, according to some sources: The original temple was built in 1632 CE by Raja Ray Singh, the son of the King of Bikaner. Later, the temple was destroyed by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. The temple was rebuilt in 1812 CE. Many believe that the temple was first established 5,000 years ago by Vajranabh, Lord Krishna’s grandson.

It was rediscovered at Vamshi Vat by a saint named Paramanand Goswami.

Significance of the Gopinath Temple

Madhu Pandit Goswami, a close follower of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, used to worship the deities in this temple.

According to legends, the idol of Lord Gopinath was lost over time.

A devotee named Paramanand Bhattacharya had a divine dream in which Lord Gopinath revealed that his idol was hidden under the Vamshi Vat tree.

Paramanand found the idol and brought it back to the temple.

Worship of the idol then began under the guidance of Madhu Pandit Goswami.
