The unique symbol of Shri Gilaharaj Ji Maharaj was first discovered by Mahendranath Yogi Ji Maharaj, a revered saint. According to belief, one night Yogi Ji saw Lord Hanuman in a dream. Hanuman Ji told him, “I am at Achal Tal. Come and worship me there.” When Mahendranath Yogi Ji visited Achal Tal the next morning, he found a mound of soil where many squirrels were gathered. As he cleared the mound, a divine idol appeared—the idol of Lord Hanuman in the form of a squirrel. Since then, the idol has been worshipped in the temple, and it became a sacred pilgrimage spot.

Ancient Significance

This temple is considered very ancient. It is believed that during the Mahabharata era, Dauji Maharaj first worshipped Lord Hanuman in his squirrel form at Achal Tal. The temple is also known for a rare miracle— this is the only place in the world where the eye of Lord Hanuman can be seen clearly in this form.

  4. Bael Leaves (Belpatra) Offering belpatra is a sacred tradition associated with both Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman.
