Among these, the Gilaharaj Ji Hanuman Temple of Aligarh holds a special place because here, Lord Hanuman is worshipped in the rare squirrel form, something not seen anywhere else in the world.

The unique symbol of Shri Gilaharaj Ji Maharaj was first discovered by Mahendranath Yogi Ji Maharaj, a revered saint. According to belief, one night Yogi Ji saw Lord Hanuman in a dream. Hanuman Ji told him, “I am at Achal Tal. Come and worship me there.” When Mahendranath Yogi Ji visited Achal Tal the next morning, he found a mound of soil where many squirrels were gathered. As he cleared the mound, a divine idol appeared—the idol of Lord Hanuman in the form of a squirrel. Since then, the idol has been worshipped in the temple, and it became a sacred pilgrimage spot.

This temple is considered very ancient. It is believed that during the Mahabharata era, Dauji Maharaj first worshipped Lord Hanuman in his squirrel form at Achal Tal. The temple is also known for a rare miracle— this is the only place in the world where the eye of Lord Hanuman can be seen clearly in this form.

The temple showcases beautiful traditional Hindu architecture with unique artistic detailing. Key Features:

Normally, only one chola is offered to Hanuman Ji per day, but here 50–60 cholas are offered daily, which is considered miraculous.

Devotees receive very special offerings here. Major prasad items include:

1. Chola Around 50–60 cholas (sacred cloth offerings) are presented daily. These are considered highly auspicious.
2. Laddoo Laddoos are offered to Lord Hanuman and distributed as prasad.
3. Water, Milk & Honey These sacred items are offered to the deity and then shared with devotees as purifying prasad.
4. Bael Leaves (Belpatra) Offering belpatra is a sacred tradition associated with both Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman.
5. Putrakameshwar Puja Some devotees perform this special ritual for the blessing of children. Special prasad is distributed during this puja.
